Abstract
The Umbelliferae family, now known as Apiaceae, is a significant source of vegetables and spices with high nutritive value and diverse uses. These plants are rich in important nutrients and medicinally active compounds. In recent years, Uttar Pradesh has faced challenges from Alternaria black rot and leaf blight in Umbelliferous plants, caused by species such as A. dauci, A. radicina, A. alternata, A. tenuissima, and A. dauci being the most prevalent, affecting crops like fennel, coriander, dill, and carrot. This study presents detailed investigations into the symptoms and causes of diseases caused by Alternaria spp., including their morphological characteristics in culture medium and nature (on host plants). There is provided a simple key for the convenient and accurate identification and the comparative account of distinctive characteristics of all four Umbelliferae-hosted Alternaria species occurring on vegetables and spices of the family Umbelliferae.
